IISD is looking for young leaders for sustainable development to fill internship positions

WINNIPEG—September 1, 2010— The International Institute for Sustainable Development, through its Sustainability Leadership Innovation Center (SLIC), has begun recruiting for the Young Leaders for a Sustainable Future (YLSF) international internship program.

The YLSF program offers young professionals an opportunity to participate in overseas internships in the Global South, with positions in Africa and Latin America. Interns are hosted by reputable international organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), among others.

·       Application deadline: Friday, September 17, 2010

·       Interviews: End of September 2010

·       Start Date: Mid-October 2010

·       End Date: End of April 2011

In order to be considered for a position, candidates are required to fill out an online application form and submit the following documents:

·       Cover letter

·       Resume

·       Most recent transcripts

·       A copy of a research paper

·       Two reference letters.

IISD is committed to equal opportunity. To be eligible for the YLSF program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

·       Canadian citizen or permanent resident

·       Between 19 and 30 years of age

·       Graduate of a college or university program

·       Unemployed or underemployed

·       Have never participated in an internship program funded under the Canadian Government's Youth Employment Strategy (YES) program

·       Have no previous paid career-related international work experience

·       Have knowledge and understanding of international development issues and practices, as pertaining to the position being applied for, and

·       Available for a minimum of six months starting from mid-October (2010) through to the end of April (2011).

All those selected to participate will receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses.
