IISD’s Group Director for Economic Law and Policy, Nathalie Bernasconi-Osterwalder, is speaking at the Summer Meeting in Lausanne Europe (SMILE) on Tuesday August 6, 2019, where she will discuss how international trade and investment treaties need to be redesigned to support the achievement of bold climate action, both in Europe and globally.
Ms. Bernasconi-Osterwalder will be part of a debate on the implementation of the European Union's climate goals within the context of the bloc's economic framework. The debate is taking place as part of the "Open Forum" sessions at SMILE, a weeklong event devoted to climate action efforts among young people in Europe. SMILE is taking place at the Université de Lausanne campus, and the debate show itself is being filmed by a new EPFL association called "Change the Debate, Debate the Change." EPFL is the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne.
