IISD’s Group Director for Economic Law and Policy, Nathalie Bernasconi-Osterwalder, will be a featured speaker during an annual conference in Washington, DC, on investment and commercial arbitration.
The event is being held on March 27, 2019, by the Institute for Trans-National Arbitration’s (ITA) Academic Council and the American Society for International Law (ASIL). This year’s ITA-ASIL conference focuses on “State Parties in Contract-Based Arbitration: The Theory and Practice of Private-Public Arbitration.”
Ms. Bernasconi-Osterwalder will be part of an expert panel dealing with the subject of “The Practicalities of Public Actor Involvement in Contract-Based International Arbitration.”
The conference as a whole examines contract-based investment and commercial arbitration between private parties and states, state instrumentalities and state-owned entities. The event will feature a keynote address from The Hon. Charles N. Brower, Judge ad hoc, International Court of Justice and Arbitrator, 20 Essex Street Chambers, along with two sessions featuring expert panels. Along with the panel mentioned above, another panel will examine “A Legal Framework of Private-Public Arbitration.” At least 140 people are expected to attend from different parts of the world.
